Volvo Penta D8 MH IMOIII/EU Stage V Marine is a variable speed, in-line 6-cylinder, 7.7-liter diesel engine using common-rail fuel injection, overhead camshaft, a twin-entry turbo. This contributes to excellent operating economy and world-class diesel performance, combined with low emissions and noise. It's designed to cope with high back pressure and high-sulfur fuel (1,000ppm). The SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust after treatment system is tailored for a perfect fit. The SCR unit, also a silencer, reduces noise by 35-40 dBA. Volvo Penta has been able to fulfil IMOIII and Inland Waterway Stage V exhaust emission targets while maintaining the same low fuel consumption. And thanks to SCR, the engine power output remains unaffected.

• The engine is designed and built to be immensely strong, with a rigid cast-iron cylinder block and cylinder head. This gives high reliability and long-term durability.

• Together, the engine’s large swept volume and the electronic management system result in a very smooth-running engine with world-class diesel performance, low fuel consumption and low emission levels.

• Volvo Penta offers two type-approved systems for on-board electronic control. Electronic Vessel Control fully integrates the engines, electronics and a range of optional features. Marine Commercial Control System is an open system that is easily integrated into the ship’s control system.
